TH
Original Design by Siarczek on TH

Wild Fire

Hotheaded and intense, this wolf is somehow the life of the party and the first one to get in trouble. Who said you can't be charismatic and have anger issues? This wolf seems like a fighter, but maybe in more than one way. They're always pushing the envelope- is there anything they won't do? Do they have more loyalty to the pack or themselves? Seems like they may need some serious reflection.

First Encounters

The Titled

The Oracle

Ruminative Vesper Elgstag

Icefall's founder. Vesper sees to the day to day lives of the wolves gathered within the Domain's borders. On top of being the advisor to social, political, and personal matters within the band, Vesper is an avid hunter. She learns herbalism from The Warlock.

The Colossus

Gallant Eadwine "Eddie" Elgstag

The test of survival. The Colossus is a constant spectre in the boundary lines in the forms of both a scout and defender. Eddie gets first judgement onto new comers. Will the curious live to see the Heart of Icefall or will the band's secrets die alongside the intruders?

...

Silvered Icaria

Silver tongue and sharp gaze, this wolf will evaluate you with a duel of wits over a fight. Caught on the precipice of staying or going, its hard to tell what is really going on under that snarky persona.

The Vanguard

Discerning Wayward

Ever observant, Wayward remains as a swift and silent scout along the borders. They track not only movement at the edge of the territory but any movement out of the ordinary for other animals that may be an indication of disease. Wayward knows the ins and outs of Icefall- this land is a servant under her watchful eyes.

The Untitled

Ilyanna

Quiet about her past but forwards and friendly elsewhere, Ilyanna spends her time helping the fawns and their caretakers as a specialized herbalist. Vocal about her gods, Ilyanna is one of few who are devoutly religious within this melting pot pack.

Lore

Tired but not beaten down, Lore is the elder of the pack and learning a new life as a crafter. This cranky old wolf may seem to have a prickly outer shell but is a soft heart once you get past the scars and weary bones.

Milo Elgstag

Milo is a young soul still learning his place within the world who most would describe as playful and kindhearted. Son of Vesper, he's learned to be wary of men just as his caretaker is.

Eris Elgstag

Daughter of Vesper. This young soot sprite has plenty of vim and vigor to go around, often getting into any and everything she can when no one is watching her.

Kindle

Young and growing into his sense of self, Kindle can be described as distant and downtrodden- though he is proving to be just as resilient as icefall itself and the wolf seems to be overcoming the trials life handed him with renewed vigor.

Emerging History

Born of need rather than relationships or union, this small band of misfits depends on one another to survive the harsh yet plentiful lands of Icefall. This pack follows no set traditions and instead depends on individuality to help them prosper. Where one ideal may lead them astray, another will hand them an advantage.Leadership in itself is fluid here as well- where most packs will follow an individual or a set of wolves, Icefall sways to the call of all her members and the final advice of her Oracle.

Traditions

The Casting

Rather than follow the directives of a single leadership, all major choices are decided by a Casting. All wolves in the band old enough to have performed their profession with no oversight gather within the den of Icefall around the semi-circular shallow pool of water. Each wolf is given two bones- one charred black to indicate a negative vote and the other a dark green from algae to indicate a favorable vote. Upon hearing the issue or situation from The Oracle, wolves cast their vote into the Pool of Icefall. These are then collected and counted, and then the band follows the majority vote.Fawns are encouraged to participate in a Casting in order to get used to the tradition and letting their opinion known in front of the whole pack. Fawns are allowed to share their thoughts and cast their own markers- black or green stones- when the time comes to vote. Though they are allowed to participate, these stones do not count to the end result of a wolf's Casting.

Trial by Abyss

The last step for a wolf to earn their Title is to face the Trial by Abyss. Guided by The Warlock, this event is considered sacred not in a religious sense but more to the fact that not everyone can overcome the final event. Wolves that undergo this Trial understand there may not be a chance of waking from their spirit walk into the abyss. When first brought into the pack, each wolf is started in their resistance training against poisons. Trial by Abyss is the ultimate test to see if their training has taken root in their bodies. The wolf wishing to challenge the Trial follows the Warlock to the lightless cavern that holds The Abyss- A pitch black pool of still water that is endless by appearance. When ready, the Warlock administers a full dose of poisonous Elixirs. If a wolf awakes from this test, they are welcomed into the fold of Titled Icefall members. Though considered undesirable to undergo, the importance of being able to withstand these poisons is paramount. Some of these poisons have the ability to combat diseases found in Icefall but must be administered at a higher dose than an untrained wolf can withstand in order to kill off said diseases.

Spring's Bounty

Every successful spring set along this harsh landscape is met with a grand celebration within the pack. The hunters set out and collect the most fearsome prey of the year while others at home prepare for the celebration with gifts and adornments. It's considered customary to arrive with something to give your packmates- whether that is an item, knowledge, a song, or something else. Wolves will also take this time to dress up and cut loose. As the first official marker that winter has gone, Spring's Bounty is full of life and love. Pups are often introduced during this festival, as well.

Wolf Species

Steppe Wolf
Special Breed Purchase

A short, dense coat shrouds the form of the steppe wolf. The compact coat wards off bitter cold native to Icefall.Colouration can range from light tones of off-white to grey, with some red tones present in the species. Some form of lighter under mask is common in this species. The adult Steppe wolf reaches a weight of 77-88 lbs and a total shoulder height between 31-33 inches. there is little to no sexual dimorphism within Steppe wolves and all traits are determined solely by genetics.

Baffin Island Wolf

The body of a Baffin Island Wolf is smaller than all of it's northern brothers, but often stronger and more packed with muscle. Their coat is long and an obvious shroud of a double coat surrounds this wolf. These wolves are normally always light grey to white, with some markings of black or grey. Dusting of light browns are present but not typically common- females are more prone to stray outside of the white and grey colour pattern than their male counter parts. An adult Baffin Island Wolf reaches a weight of 63-74 lbs and a total shoulder height between 27-31 inches.

Northwestern Wolf

A typical coat, this species is your all around wolf most common to Icefall. It is short in the summer and grows to voluminous length during winter. There is little restriction in colour in Northwestern wolves. They range anywhere from black to light grey, with any amount of pigmentation like browns and golds. This species commonly can also have dilutions of black- appearing blue.A northwestern wolf can be one of the largest or smallest around. It can vary greatly between 60-135 lbs and a shoulder height between 26-36 inches.

More traditions have yet to surface within the pack but they are constantly shifting... Perhaps the next time you visit, there will be additional information on this reclusive bands inner workings.

Integration

Entering this small band seems to be a rather exclusive event. Any intruder along their borders is met with a branding white hot jealousy that could melt the glaciers themselves. Those that pass the trials of The Colossus and are brought before The Oracle are judged for their true intent. Should one pass their final test, they are given the choice to join or to leave the lands of Icefall once and for all.

Struggle for survival

A lush valley demands much- many flora, many beasts to devour the plants, and entities to devour the beasts to create a cycle anew. Icefall is harsh in climate but also in its population. Here, you will find a catalogue of all that create hardships for the pack.

Diseases & Parasites

Yellow Cough (Bordetella)
A common cold that results in low energy, coughing, runny noses and eyes. This virus spreads from fluids from an infected animal.
Moderately Infections; Non-lethal
Crawling Skin (Nematodes)
Parasitic worms can find their way into the population from infected food sources. These worms infect either the heart or the digestive tract. These parasites can cause anywhere from chronic discomfort to death if left untreated.
Mildly Infectious; Potentially Lethal
Unending Fire (Mange)
Caused by mites picked up from other infected animals, the victim of this parasite becomes so itchy that they scratch off their coat to the point of nakedness and wounds. A wolf may endure this infection but risks freezing to death in harsher climates.
Mildly Infectious; Potentially Lethal
Madness (Rabies)
Once someone contracts this disease from a bite of an infected animal, there is a short window of time they have before being cured or they risk falling victim to a loss of sentiency. This disease causes chronic discomfort and fire-like agony within the blood stream. Madness causes a wolf to act totally unlike itself, to kill needlessly, and drool uncontrollably.
Highly Infectious; Lethal
Reanimation (Chronic Wasting Disease)
A disease with no known cure. An individual who comes into contact with bodily fluids or consumes the meat of an infected animal is guaranteed to suffer with this disease. Some victims may go years without showing signs of infection. But once infected, eventually, a victim will start to exhibit strange behaviours. They may turn endlessly, show no fear to natural predators, walk forward blindly, or survive otherwise fatal wounds and conitnue forward as if unaware. The gruesome end fo the disease appears as if the dead has returned to walk once more.
Moderately Infectious; Lethal

Competition & Dangers

Red Fox
Not a usual suspect of dangers, the red fox earns its place on this list due to the fact that the population here is more likely to carry diseases- Madness being an uncommon but apparent danger within the population.
Eagle-Owl
Not dangerous to the larger wolf, the Eagle-Owl is a silent predator that roams the woods at night. Should a young or small wolf present itself, this large owl will attempt to make a meal of them.
Lynx
Much like the other mid-sized predators present, the Lynx keeps his place on this list by targeting wolves from the regular to mid sized range. Though a light fighter, this cat packs a punch for his size.
Golden Eagle
Golden Eagles find little interest in most wolves unless alone and thus are mainly a competitor to Icefall. These raptors are large enough that once fully grown, they can kill adult deer and fly them into trees to consume unbothered.
Wolverine
Tenacious and moody, a wolverine is less of a direct danger but a hearty competition to the band. He will not let go his prizes without a fight and often takes more than two wolves to drive him off a kill. He is opportunistic and will try to pressure a small hunting party off their kill as well.
Brown Bears
Massive animals who are primarily solitary, these bears reside within the Valley during the active months of late spring to early fall. Boars have the potential to kill any lone wolf regardless of size.
Polar Bears
Like the brown bear, Polar bears are solitary creatures. They roam only the glaciers of Icefall that lead into the sea. The population is incredibly thin but these creatures are not to be taken lightly. An entire force must be used to drive these bears off and there is little hope of ever killing one outright.
